When I heard this book was out in ebook format, I just had to pick it up again to see how I’d feel about it now as an adult. When I first read this book, it was in the early 90s. I was about 11 years old and at that time, this book was all the talk among my friends. How else were we suppose to get real information about sex? There was no internet, youtube or easily accessible PPV at that time. I remember that I really enjoyed the story itself but felt sad about the ending.I must say that this book was probably ahead of its time when it was first published in 1975. I don’t think there were many YA novels like this available for the youth back then. This novel does feel somewhat dated at times when it referenced records, phone booths, smoking grass, etc. I do think that the falling in love happened really fast in the beginning without much of an explanation. Maybe this was okay to be written this way in 1975 but I think the Young Adults today won’t find it as believable. I do think that Judy Blume depicted first love and first time sex really well. The ending is also realistic for what 18 year olds would experience with their first love. I do think that this is still a decent read for a young adult who is curious about sex. "I love you, Michael Wagner.""Forever?" he asked."Forever," I said.2.5 Stars today4 Stars when I first read it as a tween. Forever
