Valerie is an empath. Her kind use to be the mediator between the Others (vamps, weres, witches and the fae). Lucas, the vampire king, destroyed all the Others centuries ago. Now, he wants to bring the Others back with Valerie's help. I liked this book a lot more than the first. Valerie makes a choice between Jack and Lucas in the beginning but happiness does not last long. It actually gets very complicated. These characters, including Rachel, are very complex. What is so great is that the author shows different POVs from each character but just when you think you understand their intentions, things get all twisted and you're wondering WTF happened! These characters make you love to hate them and hate to love them. We also finally learn more about the Others that the first book lacked. The fae background was very interesting. When we get glimpses into the fae realm, I was on the edge of my seat, flipping pages and anticipating what would happen next. There were many surprises and also unanswered questions. I can't wait for the next book and I definitely recommend this to other UF lovers!
